Excerpt from "The Decline and Fall of the American Empire" (unauthorized history, published by the Free Thinkers Guild in the 203rd year after The Fall.)
“It is difficult to point to an exact date or year when the American Empire fell. If pressed, most historians will say that The Fall occurred sometime in the mid-21st century after the election of the last American president. But its demise began in the century before that. The Fall was so gradual, so subtle, that the American people did not even know it was happening.
“Its cause, like that of every empire in history, was the failure of its people to recognize the coming fall. Most historians today will agree that the catalyst was the failure of its people to recognize themselves as one. They divided themselves into subgroups based on race, creed, color, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, and political ideology. Over time, these groups became so entrenched in their tribalism that they pushed away from unity. That very divisiveness was the true cause of The Fall.
“In this course, we will study the cause and effect (both intended and unintended) of those actions. Through an examination of the historical records (or at least what can still be pieced together), we will try to understand how a great people destroyed themselves.
“The goal of this course is to ensure that we learn the lesson of history and do not repeat the same mistakes.
