Participatory Heroism

I keep seeing these memes on the internet that say nurses and doctors are heroes, grocery store clerks and truckers are heroes, people working outside of their home to provide essential services are heroes, and people who stay home to avoid spreading the virus are heroes.

Not to be a Grumpy Gus or anything, but . . . isn’t that everybody? When did we start handing out participation trophies for heroism?
