What so many others do not seem to understand is that the United States was founded upon the lofty goal that all men are created equal and endowed with certain “unalienable” rights. The promise in our founding documents is that we the people will constantly strive to attain that goal. That some have failed in that call does not render the goal without merit or the words of those documents any less meaningful. The United States is not the assurance of the goal. It is the promise to forever strive for it. Those founding documents should not be denigrated because of the failings of men, but rather held high in respect for the goal they set and the promise that we will ever continue in our quest.
