The history of civilization is one of war and conquest; Emperor v. Emperor; King v. King; Lord v. Lord; each in turn fighting to take and hold land and that land's resources.

But, for the peasants, it never really mattered which emperor, king, or lord ruled the land.

After all, what difference is there between one master or the other?
