In the late 1980’s, many muslims were offended by Salman’s Rushdie’s book (”Satanic Verses”) and accused the author of not adhering to their beliefs and of blasphemy. In 1989, the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini issued a fatwa (a legal opinion or decree handed down by an Islamic religious leader) wherein he ordered all “good” muslims to kill Rushdie.

In 2020, many were offended by different things and accused others of not adhering to their beliefs and of blasphemy. They issued a call to defund, decommission, or destroy those things.

Can you tell the difference between the 1989 fatwa and today’s?
