It’s a Dog’s Life . . .
DOG: Play with me.
ME: Not now. I am tired.
DOG: Play with me!
ME: I can’t right now. Just settle down.
DOG: [Turns head away.] You don’t love me.
ME: Of course, I love you!
DOG: No you don’t. [Moves a little further away.]
ME: Yes, I do! Why would you say that.
DOG: [With a withering look designed to elicit guilt.] If you loved me you would play with me.
ME: It’s two in the morning!
DOG: I am not sleepy!
ME: But I am.
DOG: So you love your precious dreams more than me.
ME: [Sigh.]
